Helping people learn how to live actively and eat healthily is Megan Lyons’ specialty. As a health coach and owner of The Lyons’ Share Wellness, Megan spends her days doing one-on-one, personalized health coaching for busy clients who successfully balance a full life, but struggle with keeping up with their health.

A Dallas resident, Megan’s passion for health and wellness has grown and developed over the past 15 years. Her health and wellness coaching services come in a variety of forms – and are completely customizable based on a client’s goals. In addition to health coaching, you can find Megan speaking on nutrition and health, hosting corporate wellness programs, group coaching, and blogging about her business through the Lyons’ Share blog.

Megan is just the type of positive force we needed – so we asked her to share her productivity tips that she’s learned through the years of doing what she loves. Read on:

What does the first 90 minutes of your day look like?

I don’t check emails or social media before I meditate, write in my gratitude journal, say my affirmations, exercise, and read for 10 minutes. I also drink tons of water, apple cider vinegar, and take my supplements before diving into my coffee with Nutpods and collagen!

What’s your number one productivity/time-saving tip?

Set a phone timer for each task you are working on. It’s amazing that we end up filling up every minute of the time we allow ourselves, but we can get it done if we’re working under time pressure!

Any favorite tools?

Tools like SaneBox that help me follow-up with my clients are critical! I have about 35 one-on-one clients at a time, in addition to all of the incoming emails and clients I reach through group programs, so it’s impossible to keep their follow-up schedule in my head.

Do you have a pre-bed/nightly routine?

No email 30 minutes before bed. I try to relax and spend time with my husband and dog, drink my protein “milkshake” (just a clean protein powder + probiotic blended with unsweetened almond milk and ice), do my foam rolling, and get in bed for some good, old-fashioned book reading.

How often do you check your inbox?

More than I should, but I’m working on it! Currently about 8-10 times per day (but that’s down from about 50!)

#1 Email tip?

Reverse order your inbox, so you see the oldest first. Don’t let the old ones hang around – either take care of it now, or file it away.

When you lose focus, what do you do to regain it?

Take a few deep breaths and recommit to the task at hand!

What have you learned from your failures?

Entrepreneurship has taught me to fail really well, and really quickly. It is just a given that some things I try in business won’t work, and that’s OK! When a group program fails or a marketing campaign doesn’t work, I learn what I can, and quickly forget! No time for beating myself up or wallowing in self-pity.

What book has changed your life and why?

The Miracle Morning (my morning routine stemmed from it, and I gained a great community and coaches from it), The ONE Thing (although I struggle to implement it, it’s something I strive for!), You Are a Badass (a book I think anyone who has ever dealt with self-doubt should read!)

What’s your definition of productivity?

Creating the highest value in the least amount of time, while remaining as happy and true to myself as possible.

In the last 5 years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life?

Meditation and having a morning practice that helps me feel balanced, empowered, and joyful.
